How Restaurants are Benefitting from Digital Training

Jay Bandy • August 14, 2022

Digital training is preferred by restaurant staff across the industry.

As mentioned in our last blog, digital adoption platforms make it easier for people to personalize and provide the necessary information based on the needs of the business and job roles. In addition, digital training also helps managers tailor the training courses to fit the trainee's learning style best.

For instance, there are four learning styles according to the Vark Model, which includes visual, auditory, reading and writing, and kinesthetic. Therefore, managers can offer various models to cater to each learning style during the training process.

Times are changing, and the generations like Gen-Z prefer new methods of training rather than traditional paper training. Recent technology and digital training provide workers and trainees with the support and confidence they need to be successful in their roles. Many benefits come with digital training, which includes:

Reduction in Training Costs

Moving away from traditional training methods can help save money on materials and other expenses. For example, with digital training platforms, restaurants can choose which software they would like to use to train their employees and what devices they can do the training on.

For example, some restaurants choose to have digital training done on-site. Meaning they have a designated tablet or screen that their employees may use to conduct their training, which is done during working hours. This also helps managers monitor their employees and ensure they correctly complete their training.

Some restaurants may choose to have their employees complete their training at home. This is done by having employees enter their credentials in whatever training website the company decides to use and complete their modules on their own time at work. Managers can still view live feedback and keep track of the employee's progress.

Better Retention and Reduces Training Time

Because these digital training platforms are customizable, managers can include each learning style in the modules to help with employee retention with specific topics. These modules can also increase employee engagement as they work their way through.

Timely Feedback

One of the concerns managers have is whether they can track their employees' on-site or off-site training process. Most digital training programs allow managers to log in and view each profile's progress. From there, the platform will give the manager a small report which provides timely and detailed feedback. The manager can then decide whether they would like to modify the training modules or leave them as is.
